The Republic of Moldova was chosen to form part of the Standing Committee of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a three-year period, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the given decision is a recognition of the progress made in implementing the health policies recommended by the WHO to ensure the population’s universal access to health services.

The Standing Committee consists of 12 representatives from 53 Member States of the WHO European Region. It approves the regional programs and policies that are to be implemented in the member states.

Moldova became a member of the World Health Organization in 1992.
