A delegation of the Republic of Moldova led by Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu will take part in the meeting of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) at the level of Ministers of Foreign Affairs that will be held in Bucharest on November 29-30, at the invitation of NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoană. The minister of foreign affairs and European integration informed about this through social media, IPN reports.

The invitation was made during a telephone conversation between the two officials. “I accepted the Alliance’s invitation to take part in the meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs. I noted that in the current, very fragile security context, our country aims to strengthen and modernize its defense capabilities,” wrote the minister.

In the conversation, the officials referred to the security situation in the region following Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for Moldova, especially in the energy sector.

“The decisions that we expect at this ministerial meeting that are currently being discussed at the NATO level are very important along this path of transforming NATO, increasing the security of the eastern flank and adapting to the new security realities, where Russia is the most important security risk to NATO and Euro-Atlantic security,” Romania’s Permanent Representative to NATO Dan Neculăescu explained for agerpres.ro.

The meeting will consist of four sessions centering on the implementation of the decisions taken at the NATO summit in Madrid, the war in Ukraine, energy security and partners.
