Moldova to receive over EUR 9 mln within Food Security Program

Moldova will receive a grant of EUR 9.2 mln within the frameworks of the Financing Agreement of the Alimentary Security Program (ASP) for 2006. This issue was discussed at a meeting of the prime-minister Vasile Tarlev with ambassador Cezare de Montis, head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Chisinau.
Vasile Tarlev thanked the European Commission for the supported offered in solving the problems related to ensuring food security in Moldova according to the principles of Alimentary Security Policy of the European Union.
The PM remarked that the involved ministries, with the support of ASP of CE. Already started activities aimed at implementing the new Financing Agreement of ASP 2006. The head of the Executive assured that it will undertake all necessary measures to carry out all the obligations stipulated in the Program.
According to the ambassador Cezare de Montis, in the last years the Alimentary Security Program in Moldova obtained important results like improvement of the treasury system, launching the national system of animal identification, construction and providing with equipment the new food security and virus research laboratories, increasing the irrigation areas, supplying with water the towns and rural localities, starting reform on improving social assistance offered to the population.
The financing agreement for PSA 2006 includes a series of political conditions in three basic fields: public finance management, social protection and agriculture.
EUR 9.2 mln will be offered within the frameworks of the project which will be divided in three installments: first, to the total value of EUR 1.2 mln, and the next ones EUR 4 mln each. About EUR 800 thousand will be supplementary offered for technical assistance.
