Ukraine will export electric power to Moldova, Romania and Balkan states, Ukrainian Prime Minister Iurii Ehanurov announced about this at a press conference, at the meeting of Joint Moldovan-Ukrainian Commission for Commercial-economic Cooperation, held on Monday, May 29, in Kiev. Mr. Ehanurov mentioned that the electric power surplus produced by enterprises of Ukraine represents 25% and Moldova could benefit of this surplus. The Ukrainian prime minister highlighted that the next week the Government from Kiev is to conclude with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), a Financing Memorandum of the project of building the electric power line Balti-Novodnestrovsk. At his turn, the Moldovan Prime Minister, Vasile Tarlev, said that Moldova is interested in simultaneous integration of energy systems of Moldova and Ukraine in the Union for the Coordination of Transmission of Electricity (UCTE). In Tarlev’s opinion, the construction of the high-voltage power lines Balti-Novodnestrovsk and Balti-Suceava will strengthen not only the energy security of Moldova, but of the whole region. At the meeting was as also discussed the opportunity to conclude a long-term Agreement on purchasing electricity from Ukraine and its transmission via Moldova. Moldova imports about 90% of the consumed energy.
