Moldova to borrow $100 million from JICA

Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), will offer Moldova a $100 million loan. The announcement was made by Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, during the G7 Summit, which took place online and was attended by the leaders of the G7 countries and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.

On this occasion, Nicu Popescu, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, stated that the funds are intended to strengthen the state’s capacities, help it manage the current challenges, and support multiple development projects in fields such as medicine, energy efficiency, agriculture, education, environmental protection, gender equality.

“In my phone conversation this week with Japan’s Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, I highly appreciated Japan’s support in these difficult times, including support for our country’s European path and aspiration to be part of the family of free nations”, Nicu Popescu was quoted in a press release issued by the MFAEI.
