Moldova to be visited by first ever UN High Commissioner for Refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi will be paying a visit to the Republoic of Moldova during March 4 - 5. This is the first visit that will be ever paid to Moldova by a UN High Commissioner for Refugees, IPN reports.

The UN official will have meetings with President Maia Sandu, which will involve Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, and with Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, which will involve Minister of Home Affairs Ana Revenco and Minister of Labor and Social Protection Marcel Spatari.

The delegation will make a trip to the hotspot center in Palanca.

Filippo Grandi will consult the national authorities about the proposed US$1.7 billion international assistance program aimed at supporting the consolidated actions that will be taken to ensure efficient responses to the humanitarian crisis.

Approximately 146,000 Ukrainian refugees entered the Republic of Moldova since the war in Ukraine started and over 65,000 of them stopped in Moldova.
