The Republic of Moldova will automatically exchange DNA, dactyloscopic and vehicle registration data with Eastern European states. Parliament ratified the protocol to amend the agreement between the sides of the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe, IPN reports.

The proposal to amend the CCP ESE agreement was formulated by the European Commission. The protocol stipulates that the new framework set for the automated exchange of DNA, dactyloscopic and vehicle registration data is modeled according to the EU standards, which confirms the topicality and importance of this treaty.

The agreement is amended with the aim of clarifying the provisions concerning the preeminence of the EU law and the exclusive competence of the European Commission to take typical decisions concerning the level of data protection in the third countries and to reform the process for joining the agreement.

The authorities note that the protocol will contribute to strengthening crossborder police cooperation in combating threats to public order and safety and in preventing, detecting and investigating offenses. The parties will exchange relevant information about persons involved in offenses, human DNA profiles and other identification materials.

The agreement on automated exchange of DNA, dactyloscopic and vehicle registration data was ratified by Moldova in 2019.
