The Moldova Support Platform created last year on the initiative of Germany, France and Romania will turn into a permanent partnership platform for Moldova. In the fourth meeting of the Platform held on Tuesday in Chisinau, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany Annalena Baerbock said the solidarity bridge built last year is one of the strongest and most solid ones, IPN reports.

According to the German official, the ministerial conferences can become an annual event that will involve high-ranking public functionaries. The working groups will be restructured so as to adjust them to the needs of Moldova on its path to the EU.

Annalena Baerbock noted that the Moldova Support Platform was created in 40 days of the start of the war in Ukraine. It is the 601st day of the war in Ukraine and Russia continues its aggression. Moldova manages to cope with the difficult situation with the assistance of its partners. The Energy Vulnerability Reduction Fund helped Moldova to cope with the increasing prices of energy resources and to offer safety to families in Moldova. The inflation was decreased from over 30% last year to less than 10% at present.

The German official underlined that last year Moldova was confronted with a disinformation campaign conducted by Russia against the Government. “At the moment, we are working together to approach these hybrid dangers through the agency of the Center for Countering Disinformation and the EU Partnership Mission. We continue the path to democratization. You are an EU candidate country and I ask you to take the moment and continue you efforts in the fight against corruption,” said Annalena Baerbock.

She also said that Moldova’s accession to the EU is a geopolitical task and the process of achieving this desideratum is based on merits. Therefore, the partner states offer assistance in doing reforms, including financial support. “Germany offers support to the Republic of Moldova, which will continue. We will continue our support in 2024 with the total value €95 million. I’m glad that the fourth edition is held here, in Chisinau. This means that the Republic of Moldova assumed responsibility for this reform. The question now is: What can we do to establish a strategic cooperation form in the long run? We discussed this mourning and set the goal of turning the Support Platform into a permanent partnership platform for Moldova,” stated Annalena Baerbock.
