The Republic of Moldova should not limit itself to the markets of the West and East. This seems the easiest way to export, but there are also the markets of Asia, Africa and Latin America, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Viorel Chivriga was quoted by IPN as saying in a program on Moldova 1 channel.

According to him, there are markets to which Moldova does not devote attention, but these should be studied because Moldova had connections with these in the past, namely with the countries of the post-Soviet Asia. “We have an agreement that once promised a lot – GUAM that includes Ukraine and Georgia, which also signed Association Agreements with the EU. When we look at the commercial flows, we see that we now export not much to Ukraine, but we import a lot from this country. The financial transactions with Georgia are not large, but very big advantages exist here,” stated the expert.

According to him, in Moldova the NGO sector and research institutions do not carry out many market studies so as to formulate recommendations for business entities. Moldova is not known in the world. “We are visible through the Moldovan companies that produce wine. These can be met in many countries, less in countries that are recognized as world leaders, such as Spain, France and Germany, but we should understand that they have other preferences and it is very hard to cope,” noted Viorel Chivriga.

Minister of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment  Nicolae Ciubuc said the production this year is larger than last year, especially of fruit, because the postharvest infrastructure is more developed now. There were gathered 500,000 tonnes of apples, but the cold storage facilities have a capacity of 2000,000 tonnes. “If we now covered at least 70% of the production and created the necessary infrastructure, we would not experience problems and would not sell the products at prices lower than production costs, as in the case of apples and plums,” stated the minister.
