Moldova should render more dynamic reforms in order to improve the business climate, World Bank Managing Director Graeme Wheeler said during a meeting with PM Vasile Tarlev, on Saturday, December 9.
The WB official specified that it doesn’t mean Moldova has done nothing in these regards, but that other countries implement much more prompt reforms in the field, a fact which resulted in more attractive investment activities.
Referring to the Consulting Group Meeting to be held in Brussels, Wheeler expressed his hope that this meeting would bring good results for Moldova. He also mentioned that the participants in the meeting would suggest Moldova which actions are to be taken in order to reduce its economic vulnerability and dependency on external factors.
The reforms implemented by Moldova have been successful in most of the fields, the WB official added, mentioning that the WB attested an over-all economic growth of 7 % in Moldova for the last several years.
Vasile Tarlev stated that “it is a pleasant fact that there are opportunities for development and improvement of the situation in Moldova today”, mentioning that the EU enlargement creates new opportunities for achieving a leap in the economic development of the country.
The Premiere also highly appreciated the cooperation with the World Bank in all the fields, mentioning that basically all the projects worked out and implemented in partnership with the WB were efficient. “It is the most efficient cooperation, compared to other international financial bodies”, the PM added.
Graeme Wheeler visited Moldova in the period from December 7 to 10. This visit, which was his first to Moldova, was to familiarize him with the country and to learn first hand, about the development challenges confronting the country and actions being undertaken in addressing them. This visit came a few days prior to the Consultative Meeting on Moldova, scheduled for December 12.
