The balance-of-trade deficit of the Republic of Moldova shows that the county needs prudence in developing its production and export capacities and to also provide skilled labor force and to protect investors. For Moldova, it is very important to first of all conquer the domestic market of goods and services, programs director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Viorel Chivriga stated in a TV program, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, in January-December 2017 Moldova exported goods to the value of US$ 2.425,1 billion, while imports came to US$ 4.831,4 billion.

In the program “15 minutes of economic realism”, produced by “Viitorul” in partnership with Radio Free Europe, Viorel Chivriga said the orientation of exports to the Western markets was influenced by the change in Moldovan companies’ views as these started to promote goods and services of a high quality. A lot of companies no longer believe in the Russian market and modify the geographical directions when exporting, the production process and promotion strategies.

The programs director said the goods of vegetal origin in 2017 were exported to over 80 states, while the exports of agrifood products exceeded US$ 1 billion. The exports of equipment following the entry of international companies into the domestic market also increased. The process envisions the reinvigoration of industry and the rise in the number of industrial parks. This is supported by the legislation that facilitates export on the basis of the Free Trade Agreement. Institutional changes occurred at the Customs Service and the State Tax Service.

Viorel Chivriga noted that the Moldovan companies need to be assisted in promoting their products or the situation of 2005-2007 can repeat.
