Moldova was selected as test pilot for the implementation of the assistance project “The Partnership for Democracy” of the Community of Democrats. Deputy Minister for External Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman stated, in a press conference, that Moldova’s selection is a result of the Government’s firm actions in promoting democratic principles and values, reports Info-Prim Neo.
The Deputy Minister mentioned that the results in the five sectors subject to this assistance program (justice system reform, security and defense sector reform, decentralizing the governing power, governmental transparency and electronic government, and migration policies) will further help Moldova in lining up to European standards, thus contributing to our country’s European integration.
“This initiative has several task forces in several fields, and Poland is responsible for local government and decentralization. “I hope that after today’s (June 29) meeting we may test the representatives of member states in the Community of Democrats, they will present their initiatives and projects, and we will have more reports”, stated Jerzy Pomianowski, Polish Deputy Minister for External Affairs.
At the same conference, William H. Moser said that the United States of America are happy to support the initiative of the Community of Democrats. On June 9, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will receive a report on the Community of Democrats’ evolution and precisely this report will mention Moldova’s progress. “In this group’s presence I would like to assure you that the USA will support Moldova’s reform of justice, and we will have our own partners to help us in this matter”, stated the diplomat.
Along with the support given in the assistance program “The Partnership for Democracy”, the USA allocated $9.3 million for the reform of the judiciary system in Moldova, implemented by the US Agency for International Development.
