Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Karpov asked the OSCE to provide assistance in the investigation of the tragic incident in the Security Zone. According to him, the Moldovan authorities will attentively monitor the investigation into this case so that it is conducted correctly and professionally, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Reintegration Office.
The request was made in a meeting with the Deputy Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Jan Plešinger. Eugen Karpov reiterated that Moldova pleads for the transformation of the peacekeeping mission into an internationally-mandated civil one.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Moldova keeps in touch with the foreign partners so as to open discussions on the modification of the current format of the peacekeeping mission. Eugen Karpov referred to the statements made by Ukraine, the EU and Germany about the necessity of changing the status of the peacekeeping mission in the Security Zone.
Jan Plešinger said the OSCE has the capacity to take a civil peacekeeping mission under its aegis, but the decision to modify the current format of the peacekeeping mission must be taken by consensus by all the players involved in the process.
On the morning of January 1, an 18-year-old man was wounded fatally from a gun by a member of the peacekeeping force in the Security Zone while transiting a PKF checkpoint near Vadul lui Voda.
