Moldova, Romania to exchange data on applications for VAT refund

The chiefs of the customs authorities of Moldova and Romania Vitalie Vrabie and Marius Atomei in a meeting agreed to create a mechanism for exchanging data concerning the applications for VAT refund when leaving Romania for goods worth over €300. The measure is aimed at excluding the cases of unfounded requests for exemptions envisioned by the EU legislation and at preventing the avoidance of paying customs duties on goods brought into Moldova, IPN reports, with reference to the Customs Service of Moldova.

Also, the two officials underlined the necessity of optimizing the exchanges of information about performed scans so as to exploit scanning equipment only based on analyses of risks and received information. In case of frauds, the sides are obliged to inform each other about the identified illegalities so as to assess the risk indicators at local and regional levels.

The directors of the two customs authorities reasserted their commitment to make concerted effort to accelerate the processes of implementing the two projects designed to ease border traffic. It is about the concept of common border control that will be applied at the first stage at the Cahul-Oancea customs post and the rehabilitation of infrastructure at the Leuseni-Albita, Sculeni-Sculeni and Giurgiulesti-Galati customs posts. The works will be performed within the Joint Operational Program Romania – Republic of Moldova for 2014-2020 that is financed by the European Union and co-financed by the governments of the two beneficiary states.
