The third iteration of an action plan in the field of justice for the next three years has been signed by Moldova and Romania, as the governments of the two countries held a joint meeting in Chisinau today.

“I believe that cooperative efforts in the field of preventing and combating corruption and organized crime, as well as exchanges of good practices on judicial activity will add value to the reform of our justice system”, stated Moldovan Justice Minister Sergiu Litvinenco.

The official appreciated Romania’s experience in ensuring access to fair and transparent justice, expressing willingness to adopt good practices as regards proper functioning of the penitentiary system, consolidation of the probation system, and training of professionals in justice-related areas.

Expressing gratitude for the openness and support offered to Moldova, Sergiu Litvinenco declared that “now, more than ever, we need Romania’s fraternal support for systemic reforms, especially in justice”. “Because the citizens of Moldova deserve to enjoy truly European standards in everything that means justice and rule of law, living conditions, health care, social and educational services”, added the minister.

The action plan in the field of justice was developed based on Romania’s experience in the justice reform process, but also on Moldova’s needs aimed at reforming the justice system, the fight against corruption and the consolidation of the rule of law. The document was signed by Sergiu Litvinenco and the Romanian Ministry of Justice, George Cătălin Șerban.
