Moldova rocked by new earthquake

An earthquake measuring 4.4-4.5 on the Richter scale took place in Romania’s Vrancea Mountains on February 24, at 02.22. Contacted by IPN, head of the Experimental Seismology Center of the Chisinau Institute of Geology and Seismology Ion Ilies said that in Moldova the quake had an intensity of 2 degrees.

Its center was at a depth of 105 km, while the distance from the epicenter until Chisinau was 206 km.

Four of the 43 earthquakes that happened so far this year measured more than 4 on the Richter scale. The most powerful one, of 4.7, was recorded on January 23.
