Moldova represents Eastern Europe and Central Asia at Global Fund

For the first time, the Republic of Moldova holds the mandate by which it represents the Group of the Constituent of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Global Fund. During December 15-16, Deputy Minister of Health Viorel Soltan will take part in the first meeting of the presidents and vice presidents of the Finance and Operational Performance Committee of the Global Fund to Fights Aids, Tuberculosis and Matalia, as president of this body, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Viorel Soltan was elected to the post for a two-year period within the 25th meeting of the Administrative Committee of the Global Fund, which was held in Accra, Ghana, in November.
Moldova has benefited from non-reimbursable financial assistance from the Global Fund since 2003, the resources being used to finance the National HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Control and Prophylaxis Programs. For 2010-2014, the Global Fund approved financial assistance of €about 16 million for combating tuberculosis and approximately €24 million for combating HIV/AIDS in Moldova.
The Constituent of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Global Fund includes 23 countries. All of them, except Turkey, formed part of the Socialist block.
The first meeting of the presidents and vice presidents of the Finance and Operational Performance Committee of the Global Fund will take place in Geneva, Switzerland.
