Moldova records over 2,000 infections with COVID-19

The Republic of Moldova has now over 2,000 confirmed cases of infection with the novel coronavirus. Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu, after the meeting of the National Focal Point in the morning of April 16, said the confirmed infections currently total 2,049. A new death from COVID-19 has been reported this morning: a man aged 72 from a locality situated near Cahul town. The death toll now stands at 47, IPN reports.

Director of the Cahul District Hospital Oleg Creciun said the man was hospitalized on April 12. His state of health worsened suddenly on April 14 and he was intubated. At 5.40am this morning, he died.

A number of 195 patients with COVID-19, who are receiving treatment at national hospitals, are in a serious state.

As many as 235 persons infected with the novel coronavirus have recovered by now. Sixty-four persons were discharged on April 15 and must self-isolate at home for 14 days.
