The Republic of Moldova was delivered 30 bactericidal recirculators that will be set up in public transport units. By September 2022, the Chisinau City Hall will receive a total of 680 bactericidal recirculators that will be installed in about 340 buses and trolleybuses. The equipment was bought in the framework of the EU-funded Project “MOVE IT like Lublin” to modernize the public transport system of the municipality of Chisinau. The value of the project is over €80,000, IPN reports.
Mayor general Ion Ceban said the bactericidal recirculators are welcome primarily in the context of the new wave of COVID-19 that is forecast by doctors. “We hope that together with their installation, they will reduce the risks of infection and eventually any consequence for health,” he told a news conference.
According to Janis Mazeiks, the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, the new cases of COVID-19 have increased in number regrettably. This equipment will represent a valuable contribution for the Republic of Moldova. “Besides this, we must realize the value added of the public transport as a larger number of people who use public transport means fewer cars on the roads and, consequently, a lower level of pollution. Together with the obtaining of the EU candidate status, we expect that Chisinau will become a more modern European city,” said the ambassador.
“This project is part of the modernization of the public system, which will bring benefits to all the users of public transport,” said Maciej Kowalczyk, vice consul of the Embassy of Poland in Chisinau.
Boris Gîlca, head of the General Medical and Social Assistance Division, said that Chisinau now has 240 new, ecological units of transport and it is very important to ensure safety in public transport. The slogan “MOVE IT like Lublin” comes to align the public transport in Chisinau to the European standards, first of all for protecting the health of passengers.
The project “MOVE IT like Lublin” is implemented until 2025 as part of a partnership between the Chisinau City Hall and the City Hall of the Polish city of Lublin. The project will support the transformation of public transport services in Chisinau into a more inclusive, safe, and sustainable transport system.
