The Parliament of Moldova Thursday ratified the Agreement on the Creation of the Common Aviation Area with the European Union, with a four-month delay, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Boris Gherasim said the agreement is important for the airlines that operate flights to the EU as the restrictions concerning destinations, capacitates and number of flights will be lifted. According to Boris Gherasim, the airlines will gain access to a market with a population of about 500 million inhabitants. The aim of this agreement is to create a common aviation area based on open access to the markets of the parties, in equal competition conditions and obeying the same rules, including as regards the safety, security, and management of air traffic, environment and social aspects. Igor Corman, head of the Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration, said the legal term for ratifying the international treaty was not respected as it was presented with a delay of four months. The EU legislation on air transport will be implemented within two years of the coming into force of the agreement, except for the legislation on aviation security that will be put into practice within three years of the same date. Moldova signed the Agreement on the Creation of the Common Aviation Area with the European Union during an official meeting of the Moldova – EU Cooperation Council that was held in Brussels on June 26.
