Moldova qualifies for Eurovision final

The Republic of Moldova in the evening of May 9 qualified for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 that will take place on May 13. The first May semifinal in Kyiv involved singers from 18 states. Moldova was represented by the band “SunStroke Project” with the song “Hey Mamma!”, IPN reports.

Nine more countries have qualified for the final alongside Moldova. These are Azerbaijan, Greece, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Armenia, Australia, Cyprus, and Belgium. “SunStroke Project” competed under No. 12. The band also took part in Eurovision 2010 in Oslo, together with singer Olia Tira. In the semifinal in Norway, Moldova finished 22nd.

The second semifinal will be held on May 11, while the final on May 13. Last year the Eurovision Song Contest was won by Ukraine’s Jamala, who sang the song “1944” about Tatars who were deported en mass by the Stalinist regime in 1944.
