“I have worked in Moldova as distributor of building materials for four years and can say that the conditions for doing business here are normal,” Corneliu Ivanov, a representative of SRL ICS “Construct- Arabesque”, said during a roundtable meeting,, quoted by Info - Prim Neo.
He said that there are opportunities and the fiscal regime is not worth than in Romania or other countries, in some respects even better. The customs regime is acceptable and is much simpler and easier than the Ukrainian one.
”Moldova provides conditions, but they are not known aboard. Even the potential Romanian investors that would like to extend over the Prut do not know them. They possess incomplete and often wrong information about what’s happening here today. We consider that the Moldovan authorities should work more to promote Moldova’s image and the investment opportunities,” the Romanian entrepreneur said.
Corneliu Ivanov pointed to a number of drawbacks that should be removed to improve the investment and business environment in Moldova. According to him, the authorities in Moldova should devote greater attention to the fight against illegal economic activities, when the companies avoid paying taxes. This leads to inexplicable prices, unfair competition and negative effects on the honest economic entities.
”Now that we are in the 21st century, at the end of 2009, the state should no more intervene in the formation of prices and set the profit margin. We understand that the Government wants to protect the disadvantaged groups of people, but these groups can be supported by subsidies as in many other countries,” he said.
According to Corneliu Ivanov, the legislation on the commercial contract should be improved. “The Moldovan economic entities easily sign the contract, but then do no respect the clauses. The foreign investors encounter difficulties in recovering the losses as the national economic entities that do not respect the contractual obligations are not punished,” he said.
