Moldova adopted a series of laws on electric power, gas and energy efficiency in a record period of time, showing its devotion to the principles promoted by the Energy Community, Slavtcho Neycov, director of the Energy Community Secretariat, said in an international conference themed ”Moldova and the Energy Community”, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Slavtcho Neycov said that Moldova performs well and achieved results while holding the presidency of the Energy Community, including the involvement of Ukraine in this regional organization and the contribution towards working out a regional energy strategy. This was a very important solidarity move as many of the countries that joined the Energy Community were in inimical relations 10-15 years ago. Neycov also approved of Moldova’s initiative to examine the social dimension of the energy investment projects.
On October 4, Moldova will host the Social Forum of the Energy Community, where the member states and applicants will sign a document to support and promote this conception and to put it into practice.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar said that Moldova’s participation in this regional organization allows verifying the correctness of the promoted energy policies and adjusting them to the requirements of the regional and European energy markets. “We will use this period while we hold the presidency of the Energy Community to accumulate experience and deal with the problems faced by Moldova, which is completely dependent on imports of energy resources. We will be perseverant and will create favorable conditions for attracting investments to the energy sector so as to modernize it and increase energy efficiency and, consequently, to improve competitiveness of the Moldovan products,” said the Deputy Prime Minister
“We consider that the energy policies should take into account the interests of all the sides involved - the investors, system operators and consumers. Any reform and improvement is made for the people. We thus insist that the energy projects should focus on the social dimension as we must protect the rights of the consumers,” said Valeriu Lazar.
In the meeting, there was signed a partnership memorandum between the Energy Community Secretariat, the Ministry of Economy and the National Agency for Energy Regulation. Gas Union Fenosa president Sivia Radu said the document will enable the energy operators from the Energy Community member states to cooperate closer and to exchange the best practices and specialists.
