Moldova pleads in favor of including EU and USA as full rights participants in settlement process of Transnistrian conflict

Within the frameworks of a meeting with Christian Poncelet, the President of the French Senate, the speaker of the Moldovan Parliament, Marian Lupu expressed his hope that the “5+2” format negotiations will be changed and it will include the EU and the USA as participants with full rights in this process. This week Marian Lupu headed a Moldovan delegation in France.
According to a press release of the Parliament, the two parliament speakers discussed the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, including the participation of the European Union in this process through the EU’s border assistance mission (EUBAM), starting the “5+2” format negotiations and appointing the special representative of the EU for the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. Also, the parties discussed the current relations between Moldova and the Russian Federation and other neighbor countries, as the economic development of our country. It was convened over the opportunity of a higher presence of French investors in the real sector of Moldova’s economy, in light of the fact that the investment climate of Moldova has all the necessary conditions in this respect.
At the meeting with Eduard Balladur, the Chairman for Foreign Affairs of the French National Assembly, Lupu mentioned that from the point of view of the Moldovan authorities, the European integration first of all means adjusting the national institutional legal framework to the standards and practices of the European Community. At the same time, the Moldovan speaker mentioned about the importance of EU members’ support in this situation and implementation of the new European Neighborhood Policy, facilitation of the visa regime for Moldovan citizens in the Schengen zone, signing a new agreement on the relations between Moldova and the EU.
