Among the main issues that worry the inhabitants of the Republic of Moldova are the exodus of the population, the risk of war and also the establishment of dictatorship. The opinions were collected from citizens within the “Voice of the People” campaign launched by the Moldova Platform.

In a press briefing hosted by IPN, the leader of the Moldova Platform, Irina Vlah, said that the goal was to identify the real problems faced by people, to bring them to the forefront and to raise awareness of the necessary measures among decision-makers. The problems that the citizens are concerned about are both local and national.

“The people invoke the demographic problem. Today, especially in rural areas, you will not see any family that hasn’t been affected by massive migration. The villages are deserted, many elderly people are left alone and can barely take care of themselves. And the problem has expanded especially over the past two years, when the record inflation gave a new impetus to the wave of poverty. If, previously, the people left the country in search of a job with a decent salary, but intended to return home, the good times brought by Maia Sandu’s regime make many leave the country for good,” said Irina Vlah.

She noted that, only in the past two years, according to statistical data, 120,000 citizens have left the country for good. In reality, the situation is much worse and the figures are much higher and more worrying.

The second topic that worries the citizens is the risk that Moldova will be engaged in a war. “The citizens are frightened by statements about the purchase of radars, about foreign military missions in Moldova, about the increase in the budget of the Ministry of Defense. For many, these things mean preparations for something that will endanger their lives and destroy peace in the country,” said Irina Vlah.

The establishment of dictatorship in Moldova is the third issue of concern. “Many of the people I spoke to within the “Voice of the People” campaign said that even the most basic human rights are not respected in Moldova, that the police force is used in the fight against the opposition, that the justice and the press are controlled by Maia Sandu’s regime, that the presidential election will be rigged,” stated the leader of the Moldova Platform.
