Moldova ranks last among the European countries by national prosperity, shows the 2015 Legatum Prosperity Index compiled by the Legatum Institute of the UK. According to the study, the living conditions of the Moldovans have worsened this year as in 2014 Moldova ranked last but one, being followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina, IPN reports.
In 2014, Moldova was placed 89th, as in 2013. During the last two years, Bosnia and Herzegovina came after Moldova, while in 2012 Moldova ranked 84th, such European countries as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Turkey taking lower positions than Moldova.
The 2015 Legatum Prosperity Index reveals Indonesia has made the most radical improvements since 2009 while the least prosperous countries are in Sub-Saharan Africa. For the seventh year running, Norway is the most prosperous country in the world. It is followed by Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand, and Sweden.
The least prosperous countries are predominantly found in sub-Saharan Africa, with the Central African Republic bottom of the rankings for a second year in a row. Six of the bottom ten countries are in Sub-Saharan Africa. However, many countries in the Middle East also perform poorly.
This year Moldova is ranked 92nd. The living standards in the neighboring countries are much better. Romania ranks 50th, Russia - 58th, Belarus -63rd, while Ukraine – 70th, despite the war faced by it on its territory.
The Legatum Prosperity Index is the only global index that measures national prosperity based on both wealth and wellbeing. The annual Legatum Prosperity Index ranks 142 countries across eight categories: the Economy, Entrepreneurship & Opportunity; Governance; Education; Health; Safety & Security; Personal Freedom; and Social Capital.
