Moldova officially has 34 lei-millionaires

About 64,000 personal income statements were filed for FY 2006 in Moldova, with 34 citizens voluntarily declaring incomes above one million lei, data of the Main State Tax Inspectorate show.
Most of millionaires are businessmen, presidents of companies and financial institutions and reside in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, as well as in such cities as Anenii Noi, Calarasi, Orhei, Sangerei and Straseni.
In 2006, the highest annual income declared was of 8.5 million lei, which is by about two million lower than in 2005.
According to the head of the Main State Tax Inspectorate, Sergiu Puscuta, Moldova could have more persons that have personal earnings above one million lei, received at a single job, and who are not obliged to file any financial statements because the income tax is deducted from their wages.
Another 44 persons presented for 2006 financial statements including incomes from 500,000 up to 1 million lei. 182 persons declared incomes ranging from 250,000 to 500,000, 1336 persons – incomes between 100,000 and 250,000. Incomes below 100,000 lei were declared by about 62 thousand citizens.
The number of millionaires who filed personal income statements in 2006 rose compared with previous years. In 2004, their number was of 14 persons, and in 2005 – 25 persons.
