“Moldova Noastra” Alliance faction (MNA) in the Chisinau Municipal Council says that the communist government together with Christian Democrat councillors in CMC throttled democracy in Chisinau with help from the ex-interim Mayor Vasile Ursu. The statement was made by Councillor Oleg Cernei at the beginning of CMC extraordinary session, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from MNA, by appointing Ursu to the office of Minister of Transports and Communications, the communist government launched a dramatic message to the international bodies, especially to the Council of Europe, by means of which the communists announce the end of the communist dictatorship in the local public administration. “Through the brutal involvement in the financial autonomy, draw-up of the municipal budget without consulting the mayors of the settlements included in the composition of the municipality, intimidation at the order of the government of the civil servants who fought for their dignity at the European Court for Human Rights, construction and repair of useless objects at the order of Vladimir Voronin, spending millions on the organisation of repeated elections – all these actions undertaken by the communists prove that the communists government, backed by Christian Democrats and with the support of the former member of MNA Vasile Ursu, throttled the democracy in Chisinau, says the statement. According to the signers, Ursu is guilty of massively dismissing professionals from the local administration, dismissal of the chief editors of “Capiatala” and “Stolita”, privatisation of the municipal stations “Antena C” and “Euro TV” that was performed with many violations, allotment without consulting the CMC of significant sums of money for satisfying the desires of the president. All these actions are a serious ground for penal proceedings. “We made a terrible mistake when we accepted Ursu in MNA, but we assure the voters that this mistake will be a useful lesson that will allow us to bar the access of intruders in the Party”, says the statement from MNA. The authors say that the future elections will be crucial for the democracy of Chisinau, which proved many a time it is the stronghold of anticommunism.
