Moldova needs well-defined strategies for revitalizing the economy following the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. The subject was developed in the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel, IPN reports.

International law expert Vitalie Gamurari considers that the most difficult thing for Moldova is now to carry out the accord with the EU. “The Government of Moldova managed to sign and ratify the Association Agreement with the EU and should now implement it. It will be hard as the economy wasn’t prepared for this,” he stated.

Former Prime Minister Dumitru Braghis said the Moldovan authorities must concentrate their efforts on four main directions for revitalizing the economy – the demographic system, labor force, corruption and reformation of the judiciary. “After the massive migration of people able to work, our country remained practically without workforce, while corruption blocks the development of the market economy. In reality, Moldova’s economy develops like this: Ion from Dubasarii Vechi village, which is known for its vegetables, goes to Greece where he cultivates tomatoes and sends the money to his family in Moldova. His employer exports the tomatoes to Moldova, which the family of the Moldovan buys with money sent by him from Greece. Thus, the remittances sent from abroad go back there and Moldova remains with nothing,” he stated.

Chair at the Institute of International Relations Nicolae Afanas considers that Moldova must have more modest strategies for developing the economy. “We are great masters at writing grandiose strategies, but they should meet the realities. We should give up ideas and figures that cannot be covered financially,” he said.

The program’s permanent invitee, journalist Cristian Tabara belives that Moldova needs a well-defined economic project. “Moldova wants to have economic relations with two different economic systems – the first being based on a free, competition-driven economy, while the second being an economic system with centralized management even if it’s a market economy. Therefore, it’s very hard to build a viable economic system. Anyway, the politicians must be careful and not make electoral promises as the people are hungry and will hold them accountable for not fulfilling them,” he stated.
