Though there are many policy documents that address the problems of the family from different perspectives, in Moldova there is no strategic document on family policies. This is one of the conclusions of the assessment report on family data in Moldova, IPN reports.

The document says there are relevant reports in different areas. Among the subjects that are most often presented through statistical data are demography, employment, health, education, and social protection. “Besides the positive aspects mentioned, we also ascertain limitations. The existing studies practically do not intersect each other. The insufficient connection between statistical products limit the creation of a general picture,” reads the report.

It also points to the insufficient cooperation between institutions and organizations, including disparities in research instruments. “We note the lack of a complex approach to the necessity of research into the family sector,” says the report.

The report authors recommend carrying out a comprehensive national family survey, which would provide an integral picture about the family and the impact of public policies on the family.

Attending the presentation of the repot, Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Protection and Family Boris Gilca said the family must represent a priority when developing national policies and programs, which should further address the problems related to the family, poverty, gender equality, domestic violence and family planning.

UNFPA Representative in Moldova Ian McFarlane said this important event brought together different national and international players. “We were assisted by foreign experts from regional institutions, who shared their experience. I think that together we can move on and can draw up really efficient family protection policies,” stated Ian McFarlane.

The report was compiled with the technical support of UNFPA and with the financial assistance of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and will help the Government of Moldova to work out policies based on data on family protection.
