The animal protection nongovernmental organization ALGA seeks the inclusion of kindness lessons in schools whereby to promote a normal attitude towards animals. Members of the organization call on the authorities to make effort so that the legislation on animal protection works, Info-Prim Neo reports.
ALGA reacted to a case that happened in Racovat village, where several minors tortured a puppy, filmed the act and put the video on the Internet. According to members of ALGA, the children’s parents were fined by 500 lei. But the organization’s chairman Valentina Dudnic considers that this is not the best way of solving the problem.
“We have instruments that regulate the protection of animals, but they are not functional. We want the teachers to promote bounty and compassion for animals. The problems concerning stray animals should be solved in a civilized way, without abuses,” Valentina Dudnic told a news conference.
ALGA member Irina Marcu said the persons who need materials with information about the protection and caring for animals can find them at the NGO. “We gave lessons in national lyceums and managed to cultivate feelings of compassion for the animals without owner in students,” she stated.
Volunteer lawyer for ALGA Ion Dron anticipated that more people will emigrate from the country, including because the people are intolerant and have a barbarous behavior towards the animals.
“We need animal police. The owners of animals must be registered so as to avoid the abandonment of animals. We need a specialized service that will cure the sick animals and an animal shelter,” said Ion Dron.
The members of ALGA said international organizations informed them that they collected a sum for money for financing the construction of the animal shelter and are to meet the local authorities to see the project and determine if the gathered sum is sufficient.
