The national football squad of Moldova lost to Montenegro 0-1 in a match of the 2014 World Championship qualifiers, IPN reports.

Moldova manager Ion Caras used more a defensive tactic and involved more young players. Their lack of experience was felt at the beginning of the game, when they were hesitant in their acts. But, towards the end of the first half, the ‘tricolors’ created several good occasions for scoring. However, Alexandru Gatcan, Alexandru Pashchenko, Eugen Sidorenco, and Alexandru Dedov missed the chances.

In the 62nd minute, opponent’s Milorad Pekovic was sidelined after being shown two yellow cards. Moldova was unable to take advantage and Montenegro scored in the 78th minute through Juventus Torino striker Mirko Vucinic.

”We deserved at least one point. I liked my pupils’ game. We didn’t have occasions. The luck wasn’t on our side. We must overcome this disappointment as quickly as possible and concentrate on the next game,” Ion Caras said in the news conference.

Montenegro coach Branko Brnovic admitted that the game was hard. “We were obliged to gain all the points at stake. The weather conditions and the state of the lawn prevented us from playing as we wanted. Moldova played well, but we concentrated towards the end and managed to win,” he stated.

After this defeat, Moldova fell to the fifth spot in the rankings of group H, with four points. Montenegro tops the rankings with 13 points. Elsewhere, England defeated San Marino 8-0, while Ukraine beat Poland away 3-1.

On March 26, Moldova will play Ukraine in Odessa, Montenegro will play host to England, while Poland will face last-ranked San Marino.
