“Moldova must not look for enemies outside, but inside,” MEP

“Moldova should not look for enemies outside, but inside. You have enemies neither in Bucharest nor in Moscow, Brussels and Washington. The enemies are inside Moldova. They are those who do not want Moldova to develop,” MEP Adrian Severin said in a meeting held to open the Democratic Party’s campaign for the November 28 early legislative elections, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the party’s press service. Adrian Severin, who is the vice president of the Group of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, said the forthcoming elections are different from the previous ones because they make all the Moldovan people choose between the past and the future. Those who want this change should join forces and support the PDM, he said. In a video message addressed to the meeting participants, the head of the Supreme Council of the United Russia Party, chairman of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov stressed the importance of strengthening the cooperation relations between Moldova and Russia. “Today we built partnerships between our countries and the cooperation between parties is as important. The cooperation agreement signed by the PDM and United Russia came into force. It is a solid foundation for the bilateral cooperation,” he underlined. Luis Ayala, secretary general of the Socialist International, said the about 170 parties that form part of the International follow attentively the developments taking place in Moldova. “We have no doubts and are confident that the PDM is able to implement that change that we want to see in Moldova. The Social-Democrats from all over the world want a more open, united and generous Moldova,” he said. In another video message, the chairman of the European Socialist Party Paul Nyrup Rasmussen said the Moldovan people in the future elections will have the chance to decide in favor of a new start for the country. According to him, only the PDM can cope with the challenges and internal needs of Moldova and can bring the country closer to Europe. PDM president Marian Lupu said they will offer the people democratic prosperity. “We need consistent solutions to build a powerful and united country without corruption and nepotism, with decent living standards and social inclusion, guaranteed social assistance, fair justice,” he said. “The Democratic Party presents today a new approach for dealing with the present and the future. The two Moldovas should become one, a true European democracy.” The party’s vice president Valeriu Lazar, who is the second candidate in the PDM’s list, said the party aims to change the social, economic and political landscape in Moldova. “We should follow a model based on investments. The investors will not come to Moldova until they see who will govern the country,” he stated. According to another vice president of the PDM Valentinei Buliga, who comes tenth in the list of candidates, said a poor man cannot be fully free. Therefore, the fight against poverty, offering of support to the deprived groups and ensuring of access to social services of a high quality will be the PDM’s priorities. The meeting approved the slogan that will be used by the PDM in the election campaign. It is “For Moldova, FOR YOU!”
