The Republic of Moldova has the attention of the international community, and supporting the stability of the country and its European path is essential. “We must continue and even intensify support for the citizens across the Prut River, and the Republic of Moldova should know that it is not alone in the face of the problems it faces and of the reforms it will implement”, stated Romania’s Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu, at the Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Support Platform, IPN reports.

According to Minister Aurescu – as quoted in a press release from the Moldovan Government – the Platform is “a necessary form of assistance for the technical and financial support of the forthcoming reforms”. “We all know that the war in Ukraine has caused Moldova serious crises and major economic losses. Today, thanks to this Conference, we have managed to gather a significant contribution to support the Republic of Moldova”, he said.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced that Germany plans to provide a grant of up to 77 million euros for Moldova’s development and for supporting energy-vulnerable citizens. Additional financial support will also be provided to support refugees and their families. “It is essential to take care of refugee children and integrate them into Moldovan educational institutions”, she said.

France’s Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, also reaffirmed support for Moldova. “France appreciates its friendship with the Republic of Moldova and will support the authorities in managing the crisis in the field of energy, gas, food security, but also in addressing the refugee problem. We will provide technical and financial assistance where it is most needed, including in agriculture”, said Chrysoula Zacharopoulou.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu thanked the development partners for their support to the country. “Moldova needs the support of partners to strengthen energy independence, to ensure food security, to strengthen transport and security infrastructure, but also to continue domestic reforms, in order to advance on our European path”, declared Maia Sandu.

The Moldova Support Platform is a tool to support the efforts of the authorities in Chisinau to overcome the crises they face, but at the same time has the role of supporting the successful implementation of reforms needed to modernize the state and strengthen the resilience of its institutions.

The second Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Support Platform was hosted by the Romanian capital. The first edition of the Conference took place in Germany on April 5. The next edition will take place by the end of this year in France.
