“Moldova is not a strategic objective. Nobody will try to conquer it. You must solve your problems by yourselves,” said Russian economist Mihail Deleaghin, the head of the Russian Institute of Globalization Studies. He was invited to public debates involving Moldovan economists and journalists themed “Moldova Amid Crises: World, European and Own” The meeting was held in Chisinau on Monday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The economist spoke about Moldova's strategy for European integration, saying it was dead and would lead nowhere to his mind.
Deleaghin said that Russia does not have a foreign policy on Moldova, while Moldova in this case prefers the easiest way – of joining the EU through Romania. “We saw Romania's attitude towards Moldova during 1922-1940, when there was erected no stone building, while Chirtoaca (Dorin Chirtoaca, the mayor of Chisinau – e.n.) continues today the tradition. But the European Union does not care about Moldova,” Deleaghin said.
Mihail Deleghin criticized the Liberals and Democrats, saying they are nonprofessional, corrupt, nonindependent, and are pawns of the foreign governments, mafiotic clans and the IMF. “If Moldova fulfills the IMF's conditions to raise the excise duties and reduce the social costs, it could obtain some more money that would help ensure macroeconomic stability, but for a very short period of time,” Deleaghin said.
“The fulfillment of these conditions could lead to poverty, increased crime rate, repression of the political opponents and disappointment of the intellectuality, which always supported the Liberals.”
The Russia expert said the attraction of projects for local development would be a solution for Moldova.
The public meeting with Mihail Deleaghin was organized by the International Media Club “Format A-3”.
