Moldova must do more to promote its interests in Black Sea area: experts

Moldova should make more efforts to promote its interests in the Black Sea area. The idea was uttered Friday by a number of attendees of a an international conference on the issues, Info-Prim Neo reports. There are a number of factors to contribute to the Black Sea's are-asserting as geopolitical system, the expert Dan Dungaciu said. “It is not yet known what is the position of the new administration in Washington on this issue. Then the impact of the global economic crisis on Russia must not be neglected. Ukraine is marked by political turmoil, as elections are planned in Romania and then in Moldova,” the expert said. Ana Mihailov from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation to Moldova says the latest events in the area speak for the importance of the sustained of the region's countries, but also of the EU, NATO, UN – all must commit greater efforts to insure the security in this area. The expert Vlad Lupan also says changes may occur in the positions of the Great Powers as to this project of cooperation. In his opinion however, Moldova must not wait, but but promote its interests robustly, including to capitalize the opportunities emerging after the events in Georgia. “Both US and the EU have become more affable, and it seems we have more support in terms of settling the Transnistrian crisis,” Lupan says. The conference was organized by IDIS Viitorul think tank”, the Middle East Technical University from Ankara and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
