Representatives of the public association “Moldova mea” said they will boycott the May 20 mayoral elections in Chisinau because they do not want to take part in political shows and called upon the citizens of the capital city to take a conscious decision and not to allow being again manipulated, as in the presidential elections.

In a news conference at IPN, the association’s head Fiodor Ghelici said the members of “Moldova mea” analyzed the electoral programs of the candidates for mayor of Chisinau and asked them to sign an agreement on the constitution of a public finances control commission under the mayor general, which would include representatives of civil society, but none of the candidates provided an affirmative answer.

Fiodor Ghelici spoke about three candidates whom he considers the most important ones: Silvia Radu, Ion Ceban and Andrei Nastase. According to him, independent candidate Silvia Radu, being designated as acting mayor under the aegis of the government, started work rather well and should have been allowed to continue until the local general elections of 2019. The new elections are a waste of money as millions of lei is spent from the people’s pockets.

As to the Party of Socialists’ candidate Ion Ceban, Fiodor Ghelici said this is the representative of President Igor Dodon, who protects him, and such a candidate should be subject to a test of psychological compatibility with the post of mayor.

As regards the candidate of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase, the activist said he will never forget the period when this mounted protests and urged the population, regardless of nationality and ethnicity, to support that movement. But when “Moldova mea” filed a public letter, Nastase rejected it for the reason that this was in the Russian language.

Fiodor Ghelici noted the people heard many promises in time, but remained with the same problems. “Given the aforementioned, the association “Moldova mea” that has over 500 members will boycott the May 20 elections. We will not take part in this political show. We discussed this decision a lot and consciously and ascertained that it is the only peaceful instrument available to us,” he stated.

The activist said he regrets that “Moldova mea” called on the voters to support Igor Dodon in the presidential elections, but this turned out to be a traitor. The decision to support Igor Dodon will remain a black spot on the association’s activity because the Head of State betrayed his voters and pursued personal goals and built welfare for him and the people close to him only. He promised he will unite society, but divided it even more.
