The European Commission is ready to consider a formal request from Moldova to export fish, eggs and chicken meat to the EU markets, Info-Prim Neo reports.
At the meeting of the Moldova-EU Subcommittee on Trade and Investment in Brussels on Monday, the Ministry of Economy presented a report on Moldova's trade and on the implementation of the European Commission's recommendations under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA).
According to the information presented, over the last three years European Union has remained Moldova's largest trade partner, accounting for 47% of Moldova's total exports and 44.7% of its imports in the fist eight months of this year.
The Commission's representatives attending the meeting appreciated the reforms implemented by Moldova in the areas of competition, quality infrastructure, financial services and tax management. In particular, it was highlighted that the progress achieved in the area of standardization and sanitary and phyto-sanitary measures will enable Moldova to export fish, eggs and chicken meat to the EU markets in the near future.
Further, the Commission's representatives highlighted the need to step up efforts to liberalize the market of scrap metals and the adoption of legislation on a non-discriminatory ecological tax.
