The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) found Moldova guilty in two cases on March 27 and ordered that it pay damages of about 20,000 euros, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The first case concerns two leaders of the Christian Democratic People’s Party (PPCD). The plaintiffs are the president of the party Iurie Rosca and the vice president Stefan Secareanu.
In 2002, five persons that participated in an unauthorized protest rally had been fined by a Chisinau court. The PPCD leaders were among those fined. They paid by 450 lei, while the other three protesters by 90 lei. Afterward, the five persons lodged an application with the ECHR. Six years later, the Strasbourg Court examined the case and held that there had been a violation of the plaintiffs’ right to free assembly.
The second case concerns the non-implementation of a court decision. The State was obliged to pay damages totaling 12,075 euros to the plaintiff.
