The European Court of Human Rights today has fined Moldova in another three cases – “Curararu vs. Moldova”, “Grivneac vs. Moldova” and “Clionov vs. Moldova”.
In all the three cases the government failed to enforce the decisions of the domestic court. The government was found guilty of violating Article 6 § 1 of the European Convention on Human Rights – right to a fair trial, and Article 1 of Protocol No.1 to the Convention – protection of property.
For these violations, the Strasbourg Court obliged the government to pay damages totalling about 8,500 to the plaintiffs.
The Government in Chisinau was found guilty of violating human rights in more than 70 cases examined in Strasbourg, and was obliged to pay damages of about 1.4 million euros, which is the equivalent of more than 20 million lei. About one thousand applications from Moldovan nationals are waiting for their turn to be examined by the Court, which, according to some experts, is the highest number of applications per capita of population.
