The national football team of Moldova suffered a 0-1 defeat in the friendly against Ukraine played in Kiev. The only goal was scored by Roman Bezus in the 63rd minute, IPN reports.

The Ukrainians could open the score even in the first half. Artur Ionita and Serghei Alexeev missed very good occasions for scoring for Moldova. Alexeev missed the goal when he sent the ball with the head in the last phase of the game.

“It was a very hard match for us. We tried to do more, but we had a powerful opponent. Not all the players are yet in the best form,” Moldova manager Ion Caras said in a news conference after the game.

“I thank Moldova for accepting to play against us. After this game, we better understood our minuses,” Ukraine coach Mihail Fomenko said for his part.

The match against Ukraine preceded the 2016 European Championship qualifying rounds. On September 8, Moldova meets Montenegro away. Group G also includes Russia, Sweden, Austria, and Liechtenstein.
