An antique silver plate that was illegally taken out of Moldova is held by the investigation bodies of the Federal Republic of Germany. As the person on whom the relic was found was acquitted, Moldova is looking for lawyers to recover the relic worth €250,000 that belongs to the country through international arbitration courts, IPN reports.
In this connection, the Ministry of Justice announced a contest to choose lawyers, including from abroad, who will represent the country in foreign courts and international arbitration courts.
In 2006, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Darmstadt – Frankfurt on Main took legal action against a person who sold antiquities. This was charged with illegally holding three archeological vestiges brought from the Republic of Moldova. The object to the value of €250,000 was seized. This is a silver plate representing the bust of a Roman god dating from the 2nd century A.D.
In 2014, the accused was acquitted. As the object, which Moldova claimed, earlier belonged to the acquitted person, the German Prosecutor General’s Office intends to restore it to this person if Moldova does not take the required measures in the immediate future.
Thus, the Ministry of Justice will accept bids from lawyers until January 21. The candidates must have experience of work in foreign courts and must know the language used in the courts that will examine this case.
