There have been 77 political parties in Moldova's history. A related study was made by journalist Igor Volnitski and inserted in the book “History of the Political Parties in Moldova” that was issued with the support of Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Romania and Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. “There were parties that existed for one or two months or a year. They played their part in the Moldovan politics and disappeared afterward. It is not right to lose a part of the country's history,” Igor Volnitski said at the launch. “A large part of these parties asserted themselves in front of my eyes,” added the author, who is now spokesman for Prime Minister Vlad Filat. As a journalist, Igor Volnitski had written on political issues during 15 years. He found the information about the parties that existed during 1991-1994, before he entered the press, in the archives. The book consists of two parts. The first is about the political parties and is called “Maturity”, while the second - “The Political Cuisine”- contains 40 interviews with different party leaders. Holger Dix, a representative of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation for Romania and Moldova, said it is for the first time that the Foundation supports the printing of a book in Moldova. “A functional democracy needs strong political parties and we will back the parties in Moldova. But we consider there are too many of them. This shows that they have not been founded to represent a social model. There aren't so many social models,” Holger Dix said. Moldova's Second President Petru Lucinski said a democratic society works through its political parties. “This is only a beginning. Greater emphasis should be laid on the cooperation with the parties in the future. The interests of the parties should match the people's interests. Otherwise, we will have only parties that exist during election campaigns only,” he said. Premier Vlad Filat considers that the quality of the political parties depends on the governance. He said that this study raises issues concerning the quality of the parties and the problems they faced. “I think this book is a good history textbook,” said the vice president of the United Moldova Party Victor Stepaniuc. “This is the only book of the kind in Moldova. Igor Volnitski did a good thing. He did not make assessments, though he described tensions existing inside the party,” said the former Communist. Vitalia Pavlichenko, the president of the National Liberal Party, said the book was important, but she criticized some aspects of it. The book ““History of the Political Parties in Moldova” was issued in 1,000 copies. 300 of them were donated to the National Library. The author said he will donate the book to the faculties of journalism and history, parties, analysts, NGOs, etc. The book is not on sale.
