The Republic of Moldova is seen as an example of reforms, especially after the remarkable results obtained in the field of foreign policy. Today Moldova is seen with more and more trust by its Romanian partners, and we also get praise for our institutional capacity in dealing with the multiple crises we have faced, stated Victor Chirilă, Moldova’s ambassador to Romania, after the annual convention of Moldovan ambassadors last week.

“After the European Political Community summit (in June), this trust has grown even more and I believe that we are seen as capable of facing major challenges related to our future. I am speaking about the consolidation of our security, the continuation of reforms and in particular about taking major steps towards joining the European Union”, declared Victor Chirilă.

The ambassador says that it is important to continue maintaining the high-level political dialogue between Moldova and Romania. “A successful dialogue that has brought us remarkable results during the last two years. Together with Romania we managed to obtain EU candidate status. Together with Romania we launched the Moldova Support Platform. Together with Romania we managed to obtain the support of the European Union for initiating sanctions against those who destabilize the Republic of Moldova and in particular against the corrupt figures who, together with the Russian Federation, are trying by any means possible to destabilize the Republic of Moldova and prevent it from advancing on the path of European integration and reforms, which will bring the prosperity we want”, declared Victor Chirilă.

He also mentioned bilateral projects, such as the initiation of construction of important bridges for Moldova. “Several agreements have already been signed to this effect. In the case of three other bridges, feasibility studies are about to be initiated. We are discussing energy interconnection projects, potential major investments in our energy sector”, says Victor Chirilă.

The ambassador declared that the strategic objective number one today is for Moldova to launch EU accession negotiations through structural reforms, and for this we need support from all our allies in the West.
