The Republic of Moldova managed to increase its resilience during the ongoing energy crisis owing to the European Union’s assistance – consistent financial support supplemented with the whole EU expertise that was made available to the Moldovan authorities, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, started in a meeting with Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan, vice chair of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) and chairman of the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, held in Brussels, IPN reports.

The two officials also conferred on methods of improving transport, road and rail infrastructure and on investment in new sources of energy, primarily renewable energy, which would be placed on Moldova’s territory.

“The priorities of our citizens remain the same as the commitments assumed by the Association Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. This document, with the support of the European institutions, will become the driving force of internal transformations of our country,” Nicu Popescu said in the meeting with European MEP Dragoș Tudorache, vice chair of the Renew Europe Group and the European Parliament’s rapporteur for the Republic of Moldova.

In the discussion, Deputy Premier Nicu Popescu underlined the Moldovan authorities’ commitment to take new measures, based on the 2021 – 2027 Association Agenda as well, so as to bring about changes for the benefit of the whole society in the fields of renewable energy, digitization, environment, justice, corruption fighting, the rule of law and a favorable business climate for investors.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu is paying a working visit to Brussels during January 24 – 25. While in Brussels, he will discuss the priorities of cooperation with NATO and strengthening of the political dialogue with the European Union.
