Moldova imports electricity at a higher price from April 1

From April 1, Moldova purchases electric power for 6.1 cents/Kwt, as against 5.5 cents/ Kwt until now. The price was negotiated both with the private company RED Union Fenosa, which covers 70% of the county’s necessities of electricity, and the state-run company Energocom. The charges for end-users will be adjusted after the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) does the related calculations, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a press statement, Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar says the supply of electric power was negotiated with the Cuchurgan power plant and the Ukrainian company Power Trade, which is the only company empowered to supply electricity to Moldova. As a result of negotiations, the price was decreased from 6.3 to 6.1 cents/Kwt. It was also agreed a flexible and coordinated timetable of supplies that allowed optimizing the final costs and decreasing them to the initial quotas. Currently, 30% of the electricity is supplied by the local producers (mainly the Chisinau-based CET 1 and CET 2 and the Balti-based CET-Nord), 50% by the Cuchurgan power plant, which is optimizing the power production regime, while the rest 20% by the Ukrainian company. The contract with the Cuchurgan power plant expired on March 31.
