More than 100,000 Ukrainians have found refuge in Moldova, being sheltered in centers set up by the authorities, or finding a place to stay at relatives or simply at random kindhearted Moldovans. To date, 78 temporary placement centers for refugees have been authorized in the country with a total capacity of 6,478 beds, of which about 5,100 places are currently occupied, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița told a press conference today that the Government is taking measures to ensure that refugees can get to other destinations of choice. This includes organizing irregular flights. There are already requests for the first flights that could be made to Germany and Turkey. A special free train route from Causeni to the Romanian city of Iasi, with a stop in Chisinau, has also been set up. The schedule for this route is announced daily. Once in Iasi, refugees are provided with free transportation to the Iasi International Airport and the city’s Central Station.

She thanked the Romanian government for the donation of fuels announced earlier today, adding that that 150,000 liters of gasoline, 155,000 liters of diesel fuel and 5,000 tonnes will cover the government’s needs in managing the refugee crisis for 15 days.

Social Protection Minister Marcel Spatari said that more than 13,000 places for refugees have been identified in emergency shelters and placement centers, of which 8,200 are occupied.

“In many placement centers, people stay for a day or two before moving on. The capacity of placement centers and emergency shelters at this time is sufficient. It is true that we still need products. I would urge those who wish to make donations to donate food and hygiene products, but refrain from donating clothes, for example, because we have a fairly large stock of clothes. We need funds to manage these processes in the long term, but we are working with international organizations and we will implement mechanisms for both refugees and families who have hosted refugees”, added the minister.

Chisinau Mayor Ion Ceban said that each day in the 44 accommodation centers opened in the capital, specialists monitor the general psychological climate and the individual psychological profile of the refugees in order to identify the people who need assistance. For refugees who need help with managing their anxiety, spaces are identified to ensure privacy in psychological counseling.
