The first Romanian coproduction “Maria Mirabela” opened the first Gala of Romanian Film for children in Moldova on October 13. During six days, the public will watch five most successful children’s films made in Romania in 1970-1980. The screenings will take place in Chisinau, Cahul, Straseni and Soroca, IPN reports.

On October 14 and 15, the Gala will continue with two showings at the Buiucani Cinema, of “Veronica” and “Ma-ma”, starting at 6pm. On October 16, the Gala will move to Cahul where there will be shown “Maria Mirabela” starting at 1pm and “Maria Mirabela in transistoria” starting at 3pm. On October 17, the small cinema goers of Soroca could watch the films “Maria Mirabela” and “Veronica returns”. “Veronica” and “Ma – ma” will be then screened in Straseni. The screenings will be accompanied by discussion panels for the public to communicate with cinematography specialists and experts.

In a news conference held in connection with the inauguration of the Gala, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ionita said that this event is an important result of the agreement signed by the National Cinematography Centers from both sides of the Prut.

“The first cooperation agreement signed by the two institutions represents, in essence, the strengthening of relations in cinematography between the two states and creates relations of cooperation in filmmaking between Moldova and Romania and relations of cooperation in protecting the cinematographic heritage. The given agreement refers also to the organization of galas in the two states and enables to promote new filmmakers from the two states,” said Daniel Ionita.

Virgiliu Margineanu, chairman of the Filmmakers Union of Moldova, said the decision to stage a Gala of Romanian Film for children in Chisinau was taken in an attempt to educate the young generation by film since school. “We hope all the children who will come to the movie theater to watch these films will feel the same emotions as we did when we were children,” he stated.

Andrei Chistol, secretary of state at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said this year is a good start in filmmaking for Moldova. He voiced hope that the agreement signed by the two institutions of Moldova and Romania will enable to create a common platform of the two states and to go to the cities of Europe to show a common language, common culture and common cinematography.

Director of the National Cinematography Center of Moldova Valeriu Jereghi said that seven film festivals took and are yet to take place in Moldova this year. These events are a mechanism for attracting spectators. The first national productions and a number of films made in concert with Romania will be premiered next year.

The Gala of Romanian Film for children in Moldova is held in parallel with the Romanian Film Days that are staged in Chisinau during October 12-15. Entrance to all the screenings within the two events is free of charge.
