"The historic vote in the European Parliament has happened," said the president of the legislature, Igor Grosu, after the approval of the 1.9 billion euro support for Moldova. According to him, Moldova is not alone, Moldova has reliable friends in the European Union, IPN reports.
President Maia Sandu said that this is an important moment for Moldova and thanked the European Parliament for its support for the Growth Plan. The head of state says it is a strong vote of confidence in the country's future.
"€1.9 billion in investment to develop the economy, create opportunities and improve people's lives as we move closer to the EU," says Maia Sandu.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean also came with a message of gratitude after the European Parliament adopted by a majority the instrument of support for Moldova.
"Our country will receive aid worth €1.9 billion, of which the first tranche will come at the end of April. This money is not just figures on paper - it means investments in big projects with important benefits for citizens, such as 3000 km of repaired roads, 35 model schools, industrial platforms where factories and plants can come to create jobs", says the chief executive.
Dorin Recean says that "this is what the European Union is all about - a family that supports the Republic of Moldova when it needs it and invests in its future". In the next month, the head of government promises a concrete plan for using the money.
The European Parliament today approved by 499 votes the €1.9 billion in support for Moldova. 520 million in grants and about €1.4 billion in loans. The money will be allocated for projects in energy, agriculture, infrastructure, justice reform and the fight against corruption.
