The Republic of Moldova has never been an independent state because it didn’t have national leaders, historian Mariana Taranu stated in the talk show “Emphasis on today” on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.
According to the historian, the Republic of Moldova hasn’t been independent also because the former Soviet nomenclature was perpetuated on this territory and the old economic ties were preserved. The clans that ruled before 1990 continued to control the country. “In a lot of cases, the children of those who were in the Communist Party now form part of the ruling parties,” stated Mariana Taranu.
In the same program, historian Octavian Tacu said that nice things were also witnessed during the 26 years of independence. Among these are the openness of the country to the rest of the world, which is an enormous gain, and the freedom for different options. “We could and can distinguish ourselves in a free world, outside the constraints that existed in the Soviet Union,” he stated, noting yet that Moldova is a failed state as, when all the institutions are at the beck and call of one person, we cannot speak about a state.
